Pray

Trust in the power of prayer (A series on strengthening hope ...

To pray is to communicate with a higher power, such as a deity, by speaking, thinking, or asking for things, and it can involve expressing praise, thanks, and requestsIt is a conversation with God that can be a way to build a relationship with a divine being, and different methods exist, such as the ACTS model (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) or the P.R.A.Y. method (Praise, Repent, Ask, Yes).

What prayer is
    • Communication with the divine:

Prayer is the act of raising your mind and heart to God or another object of worship through communication.

  • A conversation:

It can be seen as a two-way conversation with a deity, similar to how one would speak with a friend, involving listening and speaking.

  • An act of faith:

It is an expression of faith, hope, and reverence for God, acknowledging dependence and asking for help.

How to pray
  • Choose a time and place:

Find a quiet, comfortable place where you can focus without distractions.

  • Address the divine:

Begin by addressing the deity you are speaking to, such as "Our Father in heaven".

  • Talk from the heart:

Speak honestly and openly about your needs, desires, and concerns. You can express gratitude and confess mistakes.

  • Use structured methods:

Some find it helpful to use structured models like:

  • ACTS: Adoration (praise), Confession (sins), Thanksgiving (gratitude), and Supplication (requests).
  • P.R.A.Y.: Praise, Repent, Ask, and Yes (surrendering to God's will).
  • End your prayer:

Conclude your prayer in a way that feels right to you, such as saying "Amen".

  • Act on your desires:

Prayer can also involve acting on the righteous desires that arise from your prayers.

Types of prayer
  • Praise and adoration: Glorifying God for who He is.
  • Confession: Acknowledging and repenting for sins.
  • Thanksgiving: Expressing gratitude for blessings.
  • Supplication/Petition: Asking God for your own needs or the needs of others.
  • Intercession: Asking God to act on behalf of others.

1 thought on “Pray”

  1. I have heard God laugh. On one occasion while attending Bible School I asked God if I should be married or single to fulfill His will for my life. His answer was clear and direct. “I want you to be married”. I replied by thanking the Lord for speaking to me so clearly, “Thank you Lord for speaking so clearly to me. Please don’t let me marry a fat lazy American Christian, who dose not want to go to the mission field”. The Lord laughed, and said, “who do you think I am married to”.
